First of all, I find it interesting how people are bashing a decent man who values being faithful to his family. Some people are comparing his actions to sharia and forcing women to wear burquas. I kid you not. It boggles my mind. Pence is against abortion (and has actually backed his stance with legislation), so that has made a lot of liberals strongly oppose him, and it's amazing what that opposition will make them say. There are some people who feel that women can have career opportunities hindered if their boss will have a business meal with a male employee, but not with a female employee. I can see that view point, and it's fine to point that out, but some of the people making that point go beyond that point to cast aspersions on Pence's motivations, and frankly that's getting on my nerves. As far as politicians and pastors, there is something to be said for guarding a reputation, but I don't know that a hard and fast rule is necessary for everyone. I have been in the pastor's office with the door shut. I don't have an issue with that. The other thing is that some women are chafed that the church world seems to lump them all into a group called seductresses or Jezebels, and I can sympathize with that view point as well.

I think this is just good common sense in today's world. It's not because either one is untrustworthy, but because we live in a sinful world. There's no reason to give people fodder for gossip. And let's face it, there are some crazy folks out there that ask for counseling! A pastor (or anyone) can find themselves in a compromising situation, and it only takes one to ruin your reputation. IMHO, it is just a smart way to protect yourself and your marriage - and the other person More of Him...less of me.twitter.com/camiracle77www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=691241499&ref=name

I won't eat with or talk with another woman unless my wife is present.A few years ago had a lady that wanted to talk to me in private and I said ok let me get my wife and she said no don't won't no one else to know what I've got to say and going on... I said then you need to go talk to someone else-because if I talk to a woman my wife is present!

If I were stranded on the highway, would you give me a ride if you were traveling by yourself? (I don't have a cell phone.)

Someone at the VP level could probably choose never to have any work-related meal with anyone, but the president, without an aid with very high security clearance with him, anyway. So the men and women could be treated equally. For me personally, I think Pence and his wife feeling comfortable with his dining decisions in terms of sexual propriety are more important than issues of gender equality in this case. He's in political office, but he needs to have some freedom to follow his conscience. Some interest groups take their concerns about discrimination to such extremes that they violate individual's rights. One rather obscene example is with governments penalizing Christians for not making 'gay wedding' cakes.I don't think Christian must follow this specific set of principles about dining, etc. But it is a practical thing and prevents certain types of rumors. Pence doesn't have to view all women as seductresses to be concerned about his and their reputation.Lester Summerall insisted that women who weren't related to him sit in the back seat if he drove them home from church. It's probably a good, practical thing to do to prevent there from being malicious rumors. But men may get to sit in the front seat. Is that 'discrimination.' Some things are more important than discrimination issues

I found this commentary interesting. The comments that follow take both sides of the issue, but do so in a respectful way.thewell.intervarsity.org/blog/open-letter-men-who-broke-billy-graham-rule#comment-3397
