Post subject:  Pastor Wright:

I keep a notebook of ideas as I'm doing my reading during the early part of the week. By Thursday I'm outlining, and I try to have my notes finished by Saturday morning (for Sunday AM service). That's just what I've found that works best for me [Jesus] will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. - Nicene Creed

Post subject:  brotherjames: I have always set aside Thursdays

for study and worship/prayer and hearing from the Lord and outline (hopefully) and finish it up Sat eve from 5-11pm. Been doing it that way for 30+ years.

I had an older pastor relay a couple of pieces of advice that I've taken to heart over the years.(1) There is a point at which you can study your sermon to death. Never be unprepared, but also don't study so much that your sermon loses the life it needs to make an impact.(2) Always keep a notebook with you (especially on your nightstand at night). If you wait until later to write down that thought or idea, it won't be there [Jesus] will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. - Nicene Creed

An older minister told me once that he studied enough to get an hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours of material about the same topic/subject.Then he kept studying until he could say it all in 20-25 minutes

Am I alone in feeling that it is FAR MORE SPIRITUAL to get your message right from the Redback during choir singing?Of course, if you preached on Power in the Blood last week, but accidentally flip to the same page, you can just retitle it or say something like, I would like to continue with what I preached on last week.

Most churches I have visited in the past 10-15 years You could tell the pastor had put time in on his subject. It has been along time, but I KNOW some preachers must have put the sermon together around 9am Sunday Morning whilest He was sweeping then dusting the benches before SS!
