www.actscelerate.com/viewtopic.php?t=89881In 1918, General Overseer Tomlinson and his wife allowed students stay in their home. Amazingly, it was a small home, but the Tomlinsons allowed lots of people over the years to stay in their home. When some of the students got sick, the Tomlinson's cared for them.We could remember, that not only did the Tomlinsons do that that to help what is now Lee University to get off the ground, they later began the COG Orphanage in their home. The above link is from one of our long-term and MUCH-appreciated posters Carolyn. Thank you for the post Carolyn.Doyl |

Post subject: | Mat: AJT's granddaughter dies in 1918 as well |
Thelma Hughes, daughter of Halcy (Tomlinson) Hughes, was born on Dec 23, 1915 and died Apr 20, 1918 (about 2 and 1/2 years old). AJT did not mention her in his diary during 1918, but does in in his first diary entry of 1919. From another source we learn it was from the flu. However, the entry is much about how AJT family is disbursed - Homer is still in France waiting to be shipped back home. When he mentions Thelma, AJT says of her, Thelma is in heaven, the best place to be. She is buried in the Fort Hill Cemetery in Cleveland, TN. I know AJT was glad to see the end of 1918. |
