Church of God State Overseers have planted a bunch of independent congregations over the years.Amazing that no one has taken steps to bridle these ol boys.Or at least give the congregations some due process.Same story, different names, over and over and over and over.. i am so tired of 'church splits'. Our church split, but not due to the overseer. He chose the right pastor because the 'close' vote went with the best choice. He has been a blessing to our church. Personally I feel the former pastor unintentionally set the spit in motion by his refusal to 'support' the man he had originally set 'by his actions' to be his successor. We did not create an independent church but a few of the members did go to one. Our 'good' members went to other COGs in the area. One short talk of unity by the former pastor could have prevented the split, but it did not come. We were very disappointed in his actions. We are very happy that our church is doing well and back up to approx the attendance before the 'split'. It is just pitiful that with the right spirit and leadership that most 'splits' could be avoided with prayer and good leadership.Oh well, life goes on and God is good Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

There really are pastors who do not want a church to prosper after they leave. It feeds their ego. Just as their are former pastors who freely contact the church members and express their opinion on what they would do if they were still pastor. With all the training and education we encourage ministry to engage in, where are the ethic classes. With all the government and leadership we support and venerate, where the discipline on the former pastors and the support for the current pastors?A departing pastor (were going by their own will or that of an overseers) owns it to the local church to support the new pastor by encouraging everyone to work with him. The old pastor should not be calling and visiting the membership behind the new pastors back, nor render an opinion via third party. Finally, do not return to the church without invitation for the first year and only when the new pastor states you are always welcomed should you attend without notice. If a old pastor can not respect the new pastor, maybe the old pastor was not building for the Lord, but for himself.

This post may be true - but how sad is it that supposed followers of Christ must be banished from fellowshipping with other believers they supposedly shepherded

Its may be sad, but if a former shepherd is willing to give up his rod and staff and become one of the sheep, no problem. If he just puts on a sheep skin, he is in danger of being more of a wolf.

It is impossible to stop interaction with former pastors. It only becomes a problem when EITHER has a bone to pick with the present pastor's actions. Most of the time it is just simply normal fellowship either dinner, homecoming, campmeeting etc. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/
