Paris, all of France, Europe and much of the world, has been transfixed on the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral. The French people were in tears.IN TWO DAYS, more than a Billion dollars was donated for it's reconstruction. Probably not since World War II have the French people been that moved on behalf of Christian Faith. Like most of Europe, church attendance in France has fallen to about three percent.Only days before Easter, the FAITH of those who began building that Cathedral a thousand years ago, was brought back to the French people's attention. What should the leadership of the now burned Cathedral have done?

It does appear to be a huge mistep. Wonder what all was considered? They did have few days to make the call.... On second thought, a spontaneous service in a high profile area, could have also worked. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

One of our problems, I think, is that we don't plan for such events. For instance, we had little way of anticipating 9/11, and the flurry of prayers and faith was largely squandered, I think. The same for virtually all other such events. If we could either plan a program for specific events...or at least have some sort of catch-all response for events of significance, we might could surf the wave and help bring people into full relationship with God.

I'm not sure the French leadership secular and religious are focused on the Spiritual aspect and opportunities of the fire. I read a couple of articles and some sense the fire and other history about the French Revolution before, and its clear the rejection of the church/religion began long before they turned their churches in to museums. One article indicated the state owns all church buildings built before 1905. Its not that there is separation between state and church in France, there is hostility, with the state stripping most of the privileges and rights once held by the church. Again, another source said only about 2 - 3% of the French people are Christians, with the vast majority saying they were Catholic by birth but atheists by belief. It there is to be a great revival in France as a result of the fire at Notre Dame, it will not be led by the government or the Catholic Church. All they want is to rebuild their history and bring the tourist back. It will take some audacious Spirit-filled leader to lead revival in France and change the secular culture of the nation.
