A member of the men's council of a COG told me that the departing pastor meet with them and the clerk and removed nearly a 100 members from the church rolls. In thinking back when A family member who was still a pastor told me he and the men of the church agreed when he took the church that the rolls needed to be brought into reality. First they removed 20 members names who were deceased or had joined other churches. He said the next month the Overseer suggested he put the names back on the church rolls and remove them as he took in new members one for one.I think that the pastor is paid according to membership when the tithe input is able to do that. That is still the policy methinks. I nave been out of the active church business for years. Is there a set policy now for pay and removing members from the church roll Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

Would be sobering and frightening to the church. We need a way to trim off the members we haven't heard from for years. It might cause us to say, We're not as strong as we think.Do you think if we removed members who haven't been to church for 10 years would change the rating on some of our states

Here's what the ole timer done four years ago:1. Assessed the entire membership.2. Sent a letter to each member who had not attended in the past 5 years. The letter stated the follerin: 1) we was updating the membership roll to bring everthing current; 2) if folk was attendin sommers else, our love an prayers was extended to em an a wish of God's best; 3) if they was not attendin sommers else we invited them back into active fellowship; 4) if they wanted to retain their membership to please send a letter statin so; and 5) if we didn't receive a letter within 30 days we would remove their name(s) from the membership roll.3. After the 30 days, we removed about 15 names a month until the membership was equivalent to attendance.

Thanks RR and OTCP. I am in agreement. I am expecially in agreement with OTCP doing it whilest hs continues to pastor. One question, Now I know a church can pay a pastor what they want to above the membership requirement. However doing what OTCP said can affect the next pastor, am I correct? Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

We plan on tackling this in the first quarter of the new year. I have already been subtly “warned “ there will be pushback but I’m ok with that. My predecessor was great with keeping records and was a much better administrator than I am, but this is one area he left me to clean up. I knew there was a discrepancy when I arrived, but I had no idea just how much.

I believe the letter the OTCP lists is very good. My son received a phone call, asking if he wanted to reamain on the rolls of aCOG he is a member of but hasn't attended in years. It caused him some self exam. He did ask to remain on the roll. (I am still HOPING, his life has changed. I am hoping and praying for more change.ANY contact by the church is a THOUGHT provoker for a wayward member methinks. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

I served as a pastor of a traditionally harsh (not holy) church and a month after serving I had a men's council meeting in which they presented me with a list of 30 members they said needed to be turned out.I took the list and said I needed time to work with these people in order to reconcile them to the church before excluding them and follow the proper methods prescribed by the Church of God.Six months later I transferred 26 members, several men who insisted I turn out those on the list, and their families, to a church across the county. After this group left, and the incorporation of cottage prayer meetings, some began to return and others who said they'd never darken the doors of the church began to attend.I watched God grow a church in the midst of tomato fields and chicken houses and because of preaching sound doctrine, praying, allowing the Spirit to lead us, worship, and loving one another. And this was before 24 to double, fog machines, light shows, and other things some insist we need to reach others God-HonoringChrist-CenteredBible-BasedSpirit-Led
