I just received an e-mail asking if I was the same Jack in OZ Division aboard the Uss Independence. I answered Yes. An old friend 'Ski' ( DS2 Malanowski) was making contact. He is now Proto Deacon Michael and lives in Deltona, near where we just bought a house last year.I tried to cypher the title on the net but it was too variable. Anyone familiar with the term? I am anxious to get with him and his wife in the fall. He was a great kid on the ship. Always volunteering with me for the Chaplains volunteer help ashore at missions and orphanages. We volunteered for Catholic & Protestant chaplains. I was more an atheist at the time and although he was a clean living sailor, I never knew his actual religion. In researching him I did see him receiving some award (couldn't tell what kind) from Gov ScottMeeting him 50 years later is going to be an education and a pleasure. But if you know actually what a Proto Deacon is. clue me in. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

Protodeacon is an honorific rank given to certain married deacons in Eastern Christian churches. In the Russian Orthodox Church it is an honorary title given to married deacons, as a mark of which, the clergyman is entitled to wear a burgundy-colored skufia.

i'LL Wait to find out for sure. He was a quiet shipmate. He definitely did not fit the traditional description of a 'sailor'. I am sure he has been successful as a computer expert, repairman and programmer. Anyway I look forward to renewing his friendship after 50 years! PS: My sins have definitely been many, and I appreciate all the help I can get Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/
