Post subject:  JLarry: Now pastoring a non Pentecostal Church

As of this week I am the Summer Shepherd of a church in Albany Ga., that is not Pentecostal. The pastor who is very much Pentecostal is on a 14 week mission trip to Spain. They asked me to be what they call their Summer Shepherd.None of the members are Spirit filled. The pastor has been teaching on the Holy Spirit. The church was a part of the Disciples of Christ 93 years. They officially pulled out went independent and changed their name on Mothers Day this year. Maybe we will have a breakthrough. The small church has doubled in the last 2 months. Yesterday in the pastors home our niece was filled with the Spirit. She grew up Pentecostal but married a Baptist guy. They are currently separated.I would appreciate your prayers Recorded Sermons @ www.pastorwiley.com

Well Hallelujah, Summer Shepherd. Nothing wrong with a real challenge. One of my best friends filled in at a Country Methodist church in NC and another was chosen to fill in at an Episcopal Church. They both enjoyed and were blessed and a blessing.I have no doubt you too will be a blessing, /God is /Good. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

Reading statements like this irks me a bit. It is also what bothers me about the initial evidence doctrine, that Pentecostals will say things like this. How can you know? Do they not act spiritual enough? Are they living such carnal lives that you feel confident saying that? Even if you believe in tongues as initial evidence, from that perspective, how would you know if none of them had spoke in tongues?May you be blessed and be a blesshing at that church

It might be they WILL be a Pentecostal church by the time the pastor returns! Wouldn't he be delighted to find that?I have honestly considered just going somewhere and pastoring a little church that love the Lord, but needs a pastor. I am born, raised, and, Lord willing, will die, Church of God. A time has come in the Church of God where, in far too many cases, you cannot tell a Church of God service from a Baptist or Methodist service.

I Cor 12: 29 All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of miracles, are they? 30 All do not have gifts of healings, do they?

The Fruit of the Spirit is far more important to the Spirit-filled life but gets passed right over if nobody talks in tongues. The scriptures agree with me:

Not to hijack JLarry's thread, but what can be done to change this? I think what is needed fundamentally is a thorough breaking up of fallow ground, with wholehearted repentance and faith in the blood of Jesus.
