Now that a 30 day sabbatical is now officially part of the Minutes, do any of you plan to take one

Maybe at least District pastors should start suggesting that the churches that actually can, set aside $10-50 a week for a Sabbatical fund. More as the idea catches on, and the importance of same is realized. I think it is a VERY important action for a church, for their own well being as well as the pastor Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

Little late for some of us but I am glad the measure passed.I don't know if 30 days would have helped me. It has been over a year now and I still have some issues. I love the Lord! He has been good to me and I am thankful for His blessings but I will tell you my mental and physical and

If so, then those who work at HQ could take their sabbatical in November or January and really have a lot of time off since the office there is closed the majority of December.

Ouch.Hopefully it is for the pastors that can't get away from their local church. If it is for guys that are on staff at the HQ - that can already leave their tasks with someone else while they go on vacation - then it would be once again a huge waste that benefits the wrong folks

Of course IMHO, this is for the pastor who NEEDS some time away from the daily requirements of pastor. I do not think it would have helped in my situation. I wasn't burned out, I reckon the old time name for my problem was I had back-slid. But at least I did not continue in a pulpit and try pt 'preach or teach' something I did not believe. Now that aside, the sabbatical would have probably saved my dad's life. BUT such a thing was not thought acceptable in the 1950-60 time frame. We believed if you hit bottom just pray more, do not run away from your problems, FACE -EM. I think now that many people are beginning to realize that a pastor is still on this earth and human. He can have a nervous breakdown or backslide. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

I’ve caught myself being rather negative today so I’ll apologize in advance As a rule, the people of God don’t do well when the man of God is alone on the mountain with God. They murmer, complain, fashion golden calves, and self-appointed leaders emerge. I’m afraid the average COG pastor who took a month-long sabbatical might come home to a dumpster fire.
