There seemed to be a time when independent Pentecostal churches were much rarer. The main games in town were the COG and AOG. Today, it seems that most Pentecostal churches—or at least a large percentage—are non-denominational. No wonder the COG is shrinking here. We laid the groundwork, making Pentecostals acceptable, even preferred, and others jumped on.

It is also my perception that the types of churches you describe above are replacing Pentecostal mainline churches. I've not encountered any true independent Pentecostal churches where I live, except for independent Oneness Pentecostal churches, which tend to make UPC look charismatic

C'mon guys. The COGs that are doing best are mostly independent - with their own board - several campuses - their own conferences - their own camps - their own missions trips.Having full time overseers - lots of councilmen and boards with travel expenses - are dinosaurs. A new paradigm is needed. 'Tim Hills videos for pastors and parishioners is the new way.Why isn't there one place where the top 10 COG pastors sermons are available each week, as well? Why don't we let individual churches come up with teen conferences, singles conferences, and open up slots to those around the denomination? Our most successful teen conference model, Winterfest, was started by 5 churches banding together. We need to encourage that more - not have each state come up with their own. Why doesn't forward in faith broadcast live from someplace every week using current technology?Quit thinking like it is 1970 - become more useful - and we wouldn't have guys completely leave the denom. Let them be independent - but still united under a common mission
