Tell them the process can be long and a lot of work so be patient. There is also a semi Christian agency called 7 homes which works with state welfare agencies and does foster home and adoptions. If you are willing to adopt an older child the process is still involved, home visits and background checks but the waiting time is shorter. There are tons of children that need homes, not so many babies but 3 to 10 year olds. Here us seven homes link www.7homes4kids.com

Post subject:  COGLayman: adopting old children

There are many older children available to be adopted. However, be prepared for dealing with some tough issues if you chose this. Generally the social workers look for other family members, then friends, then local people to adopt. When the can't find someone then the child is available to others. There is usually a reason why they could not find someone. The vast majority of these children have been abused. It is very sad. If you go this route, hang on for the ride. It will be quite the roller coaster ride. A whole lot of these do not end well. I know this first hand.
