Post subject:  Mat: Holocaust survivors starving?

OK, I've got to ask, are holocaust (Jewish) survivors starving in Israel? Just went to the Charisma News page and it was covered in adds about Christians needing to help feed around 90,000 survivors who are starving in Israel. Like me, you have seen the adds on TV saying that there are millions of Jewish folks starving in Russia (many survivors as well) who need a Hanukkah Basket of Food so they can celebrate the holiday. What ever charities these are, they all seem to imply it is the duty of Christians to give towards feeding these folks. Now I'm a supporter of Israel, and all the USA does for them, despite their governments very socialist and secular nature. Is it true, the government of Israel is providing so little support that holocaust survivors and so many are starving in their country? I have my questions, but I would like to know where they get their numbers and how much of each dollar donated goes to the people in need. I feel like I'm being played because I'm a Christian.Mat

I suspect it is a scam. Holocaust survivors get money, from what i understand. and the criteria to be labeled a holocaust survivor is quite broad

There are a lot of elderly people all over the world who are unfortunately starving or struggling. It makes sense that Holocaust survivors would be overrepresented in this group because of the physical trauma and loss of opportunity they endured earlier in life, but I would also be extremely skeptical of any group purporting to be collecting money for them that wasn't an established and respected charity or Jewish-advocacy organization. Here is a pretty informative article I found, from 2017:www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2017/01/26/unlikely-allies-assisting-israel-jewish-holocaust-survivors/97084930/

Dave, after reading your link, I looked for a definition of who a Holocaust Survivor is and came across this article: www.smithsonianmag.com/history/what-and-who-defines-being-holocaust-survivor-180972076/Here's the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum interpretation of who a Holocaust Survivor is from the article:Any person, Jewish or non-Jewish, who was “displaced, persecuted or discriminated against due to the racial, religious, ethnic, social and political policies of the Nazis and they collaborators between 1933 and 1945. I have been to the Holocaust Museum in D.C. around 10 times, and it is always moving. It is reasonable to think that just as the World War II living vets are few and few, the total number of living Jewish survivors is also marching towards zero. What trouble me about the one charity was it said that there are starving survivors in Israel, but this could be true.

What I thought was fact all my life: Holocaust victims/survivors were from the death camps of Germany. As I think now i am sure others could fall into that category. but this quote of Mats hits me as fact:I have been to the Holocaust Museum in D.C. around 10 times, and it is always moving. It is reasonable to think that just as the World War II living vets are few and few

A 75-year-old could have been an infant when that time period ended. Do they count Russian Jewish immigrants as 'Holocaust Survivors?' There are poor Jews who come into Israel from all over the world and have to learn to work to survive. I do not know if the ads are for a legit cause or if they are stretching the definition of Holocaust survivor. This is an interesting passage.Romans 1525 But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints.26 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.27 It hath pleased them verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal things.28 When therefore I have performed this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will come by you into Spain. These were believing Jews. The Bible says to do good to al men, especially them that believe

I have a pastor friend who is on the board of the International Fellowship of Christians & Jews, who in fact, just visited Israel recently. I can assure this is a totally legitimate organization, and they give to widows in Israel and others in need. If you want to bless the Jewish people, I believe this ministry would be a good one to bless More of Him...less of me.twitter.com/camiracle77www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=691241499&ref=name

As one of the founders of Jews for Jesus said to me, the greatest blessing we Christians can give a Jew is to tell them about Jesus. Charity to the poor is important, and blessing Jewish people is important, but simply giving Jews support for being Jews, without telling them about Jesus the Savior misses the mark of being Christian.

I have no problem with that statement, but just History itself and remembering how I felt as a kid seeing how some of these people were treated with years of work, punishment, being used as animals in medical tests and starvation, I lean toward someone who suffered in prison camps in that terrible time. But that is a personal opinion. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/
