I voted for Trump. Over the current field, I will vote for him again. But he has STUNK THE PLACE UP with his buffoonish, ignorant behavior. He apparently thinks that HE is the boss of the United States. DOH!I like many of Trump's policies. But this is the most TONE-DEAF act I have ever seen. He apparently is under the impression that America wants to see a tough guy during this time. NO, THEY DON'T!!!He has made it EASY to blame him for all the missteps--whether due to him or anyone else. Why? Because when people see how ignorant he is acting, they may very likely assume that he did everything else ignorantly, too.Nixon had a similar problem. He wanted to be a tough guy. This otherwise gentle Quaker wound up cursing like a sailor (he was) and playing tough...when it did nothing for him...hurt him, in fact.Trump could have come out and said, Folks, we are, in some ways, in uncharted waters. We were not as prepared as we would have liked. We were slower to respond, since we didn't fully comprehend the danger...and also wanted to try to preserve the economy, since that would also hurt people. Coulda, woulda, shoulda...let's not get caught up in that. Let's get caught up in the solution. And from saying that, instead of boasting (lying) about how wonderful everything was, he could have cut off critical question by simply saying, I'm not going to play the blame game. I'm the president--the buck stops here no matter who was to blame. The issue now is how do we get this under control and get our country back to working? BOOM!Instead, everyone--me included--is wanting to take a verbal shot at him due to his arrogance. He can't rewrite the past, but he can change the present and the future by not showing up EVERY DAY for another cringe-worthy showcase of trying to beat down legitimate questions that ARE going to keep coming because of his need to appear to be beyond criticism and king of the world.

It was predicted by the professional community that with our measures, we will have 2 millions deaths. We likely won't break 50K. Some of those CV deaths are questionable. His policies are very sound. He does need to quit tweeting.I have watched his daily CV presser. Have you listened to some of the dumb questions the media is asking? He throws it back. Cuomo demanded 40K vents. Trump said no. In retro, Cuomo was wrong on all estimates and didn't need all the vents. He closed down borders with China when all the left and MSM called him racist. In retro, he was right. Think about it, it was not him that estimated millions would die but the pros. He should get credit for that.I know several people who are needing very needful procedures but are put on hold because of just in case. Keeping things closed is having greater consequences on peoples health keeping things shut down because of just in case.Since January, he's done a good job with CV, the media and the left. He is crass and incendiary for sure. But, what as mentioned and you agree, his policies are 100% sound and pretty much biblical. I wonder what people would have thought about King David if he ran our country? King David was a bloody man. He killed many people. He likely slit the throat of many of his enemies as well as killed women, children and infants.

In the context of the presser yesterday (I watched the whole thing for some reason) he was saying he had the total and absolute authority to override what states had done in regard to school/business/restaurant closures, gathering bans, etc. But he never really made a serious statement about it. Every time he was pressed about how specifically he intended to use this power, he would say something like the governors agree with me, I don't think I'll have to use it, etc.

People would be cleaning their muskets if Obama had said what Trump said yesterday. But Obama was also a serious person and Trump isn't. When Obama said he had a phone and a pen, we knew he was going to try to exert serious authority in an unlawful way. But with Trump... whatever.

Or conservative states open up and begin experiencing renewed waves and mass deaths. Either way, I agree with your take on Trump's power here. In terms of legal authority his power is non-existent here but as the president he has a TON of influence over it, which is its own form of power.

If you want to believe your power is absolute, have at it buddy. |
