One of my all-time favorite Advent hymns! I enjoy it in almost every version in which I have ever heard it sung. My favorite is Margaret Becker’s rendition from 1988:youtu.be/h-Mpf5nEFO0

Same here! I think I like this one and Hark The Herald Angels Sing the most. This one so beautifully captures our longing for our Messiah, and Hark The Herald Angels Sing so wonderfully captures the joy of His arrival. These songs remind me of Robert Preus' statement that through hymns we sing the faith into our hearts.Adam's likeness, Lord, efface,Stamp Thine image in its place:Second Adam from above,Reinstate us in Thy love!Let us Thee, though lost, regain,Thee, the Life, the inner man:O, to all Thyself impart,Formed in each believing heart.Hark! the herald angels sing,

My favorite Christmas poem/Song is I Heard the Bells on Christmas DayI heard the bells on Christmas DayTheir old, familiar carols play, and wild and sweetThe words repeatOf peace on earth, good-will to men!And thought how, as the day had come,The belfries of all ChristendomHad rolled alongThe unbroken songOf peace on earth, good-will to men!Till ringing, singing on its way,The world revolved from night to day,A voice, a chime,A chant sublimeOf peace on earth, good-will to men! Then from each black, accursed mouthThe cannon thundered in the South,And with the soundThe carols drownedOf peace on earth, good-will to men!It was as if an earthquake rentThe hearth-stones of a continent,And made forlornThe households bornOf peace on earth, good-will to men!And in despair I bowed my head;“There is no peace on earth,” I said;“For hate is strong,And mocks the songOf peace on earth, good-will to men!”Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; The Wrong shall fail,The Right prevail,With peace on earth, good-will to men.”The story behind it is very interestingwww.thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/justin-taylor/the-story-of-pain-and-hope-behind-i-heard-the-bells-on-christmas-day/I believe OTCP quotes from it every once and a while
