A yearly over all background check would be very costly and cumbersome. Of course at licensing it would be good.A random 8 alphabetical group every two years? Some wise person could come up with a way to cover the COG ministers every ten years. I really do not know the cost or the speed of one of these checks. I have faced several background checks, but that was long ago, long before the internet.I hope someone here is familiar with backgournd checks with certain filters as far as cost and time consumed. For all I know it may only take a minute or two for each name forming a list of hits to examine closer. You may actually have an exit of ministers if they knew actual checks were to be made. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

You can do one for 8 dollars per pastor. Charge a license renewal fee. Should cog license be for life? there could be a yearly or 2 year license renewal fee. It could be done very cheaply if the organization used a good denominational management software other than CDM+. CDM+ makes me feel as though I am stepping back into the days of MS dos the program is straight from 1999

I can't see any reason why a denomination wouldn't want to do this for its ministers, or why any upstanding minister should object. Typically I reject the what's the problem if you don't have anything to hide? argument -- but in this case, I think it's advantageous for the ministers as well. They can boast that their denomination checks them regularly, and hopefully can boast that they do the same for their elders, staff, and lay leaders. It is also a means of accountability, which is always good for everyone, including the person being held accountable.

I have been out of the electronics loop for many years. Thanks for the information must for my own information. I figured there had to be some thing in place to cover this. Now is this something the Exec. Board could enact or must this be a GA passed idea?I know most ministers would resist the license renewal idea and fee. It would take some PR work that is for sure. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

OTCP would vote for periodic background checks with no problem at all.

I believe in grace and what is in the past is forgiven, but Would you let a doctor operate on you who had a recent dui drug charge or something worse? I know at my local hospital they check all doctors legal history. Why? because if they have a recent dui or charge on their record that means they are compromised and bigger issues may be at hand. The hospital could be responsible. if they are the doctor on call and the er needs them. What if they are too drunk to go work when the er is short handed there are plenty of questions that could arise from this. Lives literally hang in the balance. If the secular world has this standard why not the church world.Check this article out Judge to doctor imprisoned for 7th DUI: You 'could have hired a driverwww.google.com/amp/www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-doctor-dui-sentence-met-20160810-story,amp.htmlQuoteprosector countered that The doctor has played the doctor card too many times, using his lofty professional status to seek special treatment from the criminal justice system after multiple run-ins with the law..... The fact that this man is a doctor is a not a mitigating factor. It is an aggravating factor.

I have had emails on the board asking about using checkr for church background checks for 8 bucks. I am happy to share that knowledge with anyone wanting to know how. you can use this for any ministry in your church. the easiest way is to sign up for a free at planningcenteronline.comfrom there on the top right is a link called sign up. create a free accountafter that is donefollow this link below. it is a video tutorial on how to do background checks in planning center.planning.center/2017/secure-your-church-with-background-checks/here are the pricesyou can even do motor vehicle reports for 4 dollars. think about that the next time the youth group takes the church van.you do need to sign up for planning center people that part is free and it works really well as a church database...or even a local state church of God database for pastors and volunteers. this can make sure we keep our churches safe and sound.

Should or Should not, It does not matter. It will never happen. 1) Cost Prohibitive 2) Negative Number ImageThe COG will never spend money on something that will present negative optics
