With the internet in mind, I set the coach up with two PC's. One on either side of the kitchen table. Over on my wife's monitor just popped up a picture of her at the peak of Mt. Katahdin in Maine. She turned to me and said, We really loved to walk didn't we?She really did learn to love to walk. My response was, I liked to walk for the theraputic value. You know in our lives when the kids got into drugs we walked and talked. During their divorces we walked and talked. It was you that loved to walk, but for me? It was the talking more than the walking. BUT sweetheart I am glad you wanted to walk the Appalachian Trail. And I meant it.That said, I know pastors and other ministers have problems. You NEED time with your wife. Over the years (pasrtor or not) I have found YOU AND YOUR WIFE NEED that privacy and time to discuss things. The fresh air, no phones or visitors does assist in 'handling' some problems mentally.YOu do not have to hike the AT, but 1 or 3 miles at least a couple times a week would do you wonders. It is also good for your health.I used to run some, but running is an individual mind cleanser, it does little for the couple. We did not do the whole AT in a summer as we thougth we could, but took several years section hiking. That is not practical for a full time worker or pastor BUT 30 minutes to an hour around the block or in a park, will do wonders for a life and marriage.I enjoy my wife, she is my best friend. I like taking time with my best friend, we still walk about 3 miles a day. Just a bit of non-scriptural advice from someone that it has helped. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

I am not saying that walking takes the place of your 'romantic Dinners' , but they are just as important. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

Me and my precious wife love to walk and talk. We have walked similar paths. One of our kids battling alcohol addiction, and another dealing with divorce. We still make time for date nights but I do treasure our walks through the neighborhood. And I do enjoy the talking more than the walking

Love it! You know I would imagine a pastor and his wife walking in the neighborhood where they live or pastor, would also have some great side effects. The wife and I get compliments as we walk. The wife is 80 already I will turn 80 soon. We still hold hands. A lady stopped us the other day and said she loved to see us walk by, it is always a 'Hallmark Moment' she said.I always enjoy your comments! Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

Thanks for some practical advice. I am sure not the person to train pastors but if I could give any advice to a person going to the ministry it would be to prioritize a couple hours a day minimum for God and your spouse. One must be deliberate in setting this time aside first and doing what other things can be accomplished each day.
