| I know the COG teaching is similar but seems to be more lax in the area of allowing divorced ministers to continue in pastorate. Is there a similar document for the COG? I found this while researching the LCMS because my daughter is dating a Lutheran (he is a very serious and devout one though and has already agreed to go to her church rather than his if it comes to marriage). I found this teaching very much in line with my understanding of the New Testament teaching. |

| It appears to me that the COG is ambiguous, or at least inconsistent on the fact of the 'pastor committing adultery vs the wife.' It seems lots of weight is given to the size of church or the reputation of the pastor.Even in the statement, as I read it, in the OP there is some 'wiggle room'. I would think such a statement would help in an overseer deciding a yes/no answer. The statement is a good discussion point I think. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/ |

| The answer to this depends upon two factors:1. Who you are |

| Is this really true? Does this mean there is “nothing in writing†that would ensure equal consideration for all “Hell will be filled with people that didn’t cuss, didn’t drink, and may even have been baptized. Why? Because none of those things makes someone a Christian.” |

Just observing from the side on this comment, I think this points out that the written rules can get a spin according to who you are. In the church world we are many times no different than business or politics. And that is to our shame. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/ |

Just observing from the side on this comment, I think this points out that the written rules can get a spin according to who you are. In the church world we are many times no different than business or politics. And that is to our shame. I can certainly agree that each situation has to be judged on its own merits on a case by case basis. And I am definitely not naive enough to think that in the business world things are not being deliberately skewed one way or another in order to effect the outcome. There is no place for this in the Church however, and it is disheartening to read that it does appears to be happening. Such nepotism does nothing but bring reproach upon both the organization and those responsible for ensuring it treats everyone equally “Hell will be filled with people that didn’t cuss, didn’t drink, and may even have been baptized. Why? Because none of those things makes someone a Christian.” |
